Morris Commercial CDSWs
Like everyone, Nick began his collection interest with Airfix. A personal favourite of his being the "40mm Bofors gun and tractor". The tractor in this case being a Morris Commercial CDSW.
This boyhood dream began to materialise back in July 2018 when we adopted around 80% of the running gear from one of these vehicles.
Following this, back in November 2021 we took delivery of the wrecks of two CDSWs, one a Bofors tractor, and the other a breakdown variant. Both in fairly rough condition. One had been lifted out of a hedge with a telehandler and had snapped the chassis in two. The other remains in one piece but is very crusty and bare indeed.
But then finally, in the summer of 2022, we were put into contact with a gentleman in Portadown with a comparatively very complete example of a Bofors tractor. Arriving at our yard in one piece, this vehicle had been used on an American bomber base in Northern Ireland during the war. Post war, the vehicle has had the Bofors support body removed and has been replaced with a rather fetching flatbed.
This vehicle, along with the spares from the other one and three halves, is high up the priority list for us for restoration.
With the manufacture of two new chassis, it would be possible to recover three complete vehicles from the spares. For someone who's brave enough..
